YL train Ride and Special Event Operations
Just Completed! Hope to see you at our next event!
All YL's are invited to join us on December 6th, 2014 as we board the Southern Nevada Railway at Boulder City, Nevada for a 40 minute excursion into history.
The train departs the station at 10:00 AM. YL's will gather at the station at 9:30 AM. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the train. Bring your handheld as we plan to operate Railroad Mobile via IRLP and Echolink.
After the event, stick around and join us for lunch. That afternoon we will be decorating our entry for the evenings annual "Santa's Electric Light Parade".....you are invited to march/ride along with us in the parade!

Soar To Sponsor W1AW/7
As a special part of the ARRL 100 Centennial Celebration SOAR will be operating as W1AW/7 in the 7th Area QSO Party (7qp) on May 3rd.
From April 30th thru May 6th Nevada will be hosting the portable operation of W1AW. All 50 states and a few U.S. territories will have two, one week periods where they host the W1AW operation.
W1AW is the headquarters station of the American Radio Relay League, located in Newington, Connecticut. W1AW takes its call sign from ARRL founder Hiram Percy Maxim whose call sign was 1AW.
The SOAR sponsored W1AW/7 station will be on the air from 6:00 AM until 12:00 midnight. The station will be operating from the Amateur Electronics Supply (AES) at 4640 South Polaris Avenue in Las Vegas. All licensed hams and guests are welcome to come operate.

PAJAMA PARTY POSTPONED
S.O.A.R. reports that this years Pajama Party Of The Airwaves, Special Event Station which was to operate on March 15th has been postponed to a later date.
"Unfortunately, a loved one of our hostess is convalescing from emergency heart surgery, and she must delay the use of her QTH", said club President Liz Bigley-KD7RIN.
A new date for the event will be set at SOAR's monthly meeting next Saturday.

Santa's Electric Night Parade 2013

Mark Saturday December 7th, 2013 on your calendars. That will be the night we join in celebration with the jolliest elf of them all "Santa Claus"...... The occasion will be "Santa's Electric Night Parade" in Boulder City, Nevada 2014 will mark the Centennial Celebration of the American Radio Relay League and SOAR members will be high- lighting the role that women have played in the past 100 years of Amateur Radio. We plan to showcase both the early years and modern times of ham radio. Ladies dressed in the period attire of the early 1900's and transmitting via the new wonder of radio, will be joined by the YL's of today with their modern rigs. The parade kicks off at 4:30 PM |
Seventh Annual "Hams On The Hill" Field Day Event

SOAR will once again co-sponsor the "Hams On The Hill" Field Day Event on Mt. Charleston, outside Las Vegas.
This event has become a favorite of area YL's. Plenty of relaxing fun, radio activities, camping, and outdoor recreation. SOAR will once again make sure that everyone attending is well fed.

Remember back to the days when all of us girls would get together at a friends house for a slumber party? Pizza, Coca-Cola, talkin' about boys, trying on make-up.....pillow fights... trying not to fall asleep....
The Las Vegas Chapter of SOAR will re-live those memories when we host our first "Pajama Party" Special Event Station, Saturday night March 17th, 2012.
That's right ladies. Throw your favorite jammies in your overnight bag and come join us for our combination girls sleep-over/radio operating party. All girls, whether you are a teen, pre-teen, tween, or way beyond are invited to join in. If you are a YL outside of the area or an OM, we will see you on the air. Listen for the call "CQ YL Pajama Party"
